Taberah, Sinners Lament Album Review

Being one of my favourite Australian bands, I wasn’t ready to be disappointed by this release the 3rd from Tasmania’s “best friend brigade” Taberah. But I wasn’t ready for what I heard either.

Sinner’s Lament the follow up to 2016 EP release Welcome To The Crypt and the bands 3rd album after 2013`s Necromancer and their debut album The Light Of Which I Dream released in 2011 is quite simply brilliant from the opening notes of Sinner’s Lament to the closing crash of Hotel California (Eagles Cover)

Recorded with Joe Haley at Red Planet and Crawlspace Studios, mixed, mastered and produced by Lord Tim (SLS Studios and LORD) late in 2016 it really showcases the talents of everyone involved, its crisp, clean and catchy just the way it should be.

With references to their past, Dance Of The Damned (Requiem Of The Damned) and Child Of Storm (Stormchild) the album delivers another chapter of the Taberah story.

Harlott, a fast paced rocker with a big chorus is going to go down a treat in the live set I can hear the crowd chanting it as I type.

The stand out track for me is The Final March Of Man with its War Of The World’s references and at nearly 8 minutes long takes you on a Sci-Fi musical voyage.

Closing out the album is The Eagles classic Hotel California, quite a surprise I must say in more than one way, given the covers they had played throughout their live set in 2016.

This for me is one of the best Australian albums released in quite a long time, hopefully the rest of the country and the world will agree.
